FRP is made up of reinforced fiber and matrix, which is generally made of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin and phenolic resin as matrix, and reinforced plastic with glass fiber or its products. Fiber (or whisker) diameter is very small, generally under the 10μm, less defects and smaller, fracture strain of about 30 per thousand, is brittle material, easy to damage, fracture and corrosion.
Matrix relative to fiber, strength, modulus is much lower, but can withstand large strains, often with viscoelastic and elastoplastic, is ductile material. The main FRP main materials commonly used in engineering structure are carbon fiber (CFRP), glass fiber (GFRP), and Aramid Fiber (AFRP), the main materials in the form of sheet metal (fiber cloth and Plate), bar (rebar and Sao) and profiles (grid type, work style, honeycomb type, etc.).
